How I improved my IELTS from 6.5 to 8.0 in 8 weeks

GRE / IELTS

I had about 2-3 months to prepare, and my starting level was around 6.5(

At first I was just doing random practice, but that didn’t really move my score. So I decided to follow a simple weekly system instead of “studying whenever I felt like it.”

Each week I would:

  • Do 2 timed mock sections
  • Write 2 essays and rewrite them after feedback
  • Record myself answering 3 speaking questions
  • Do 1 full listening test and 1 reading test

The biggest difference wasn’t the practice itself, it was what I did after. Just, after every session, I logged my mistakes and tried to understand patterns: Was it grammar? Or was I losing coherence? Maybe was I running out of time?

Then I adjusted the next week based on that. One of the biggest accelerators for me was using a platform that actually simulated real exam timing and gave structured feedback with a personal improvement plan

There are a lot of free resources which can help you understand the format. But structured, realistic mocks are what actually helped me move from 6.5 to 8.0
