[RO] Revolut refuses to accept the new Romanian Electronic ID (eID)
Hi,
I am 18 years old and I am having a serious issue with Revolut regarding my identity verification.
Romania has officially started replacing the old paper ID cards with the new electronic identity cards. I legally hold this new card, and I no longer possess the old format.
The problem is that Revolut:
- Keeps restricting or closing my account.
- Repeatedly sends an automated verification process that DOES NOT support the new Romanian electronic ID (it only recognizes the old model or passports).
I have clearly explained to support that:
- I am a legal adult (18).
- I have a valid electronic ID issued by the Romanian Government.
- I can provide an official Certificate of Domicile issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a PDF.
Despite this, support keeps pushing me toward the automated flow which constantly fails, and they seem to refuse a manual review by a human agent.
- Has anyone else dealt with the new Romanian eID on Revolut?
- Is there a way to reach a real human compliance agent instead of bots?
- Is there a formal complaint route at the EU level if a digital bank refuses to recognize a valid, government-issued national ID?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
