Surprised my A1C wasn’t worse

I’m newly diagnosed and have been testing for a few weeks now. My A1C was 7.7. Seeing how my blood glucose goes up with the smallest amount of carbs, I have to say I’m sorry of surprised my A1C wasn’t even higher! The test period included Thanksgiving through Christmas and I was eating so many carbs and sugary treats. Anyone else feel this way? I’m happy I don’t have to get it down “too much”, but wow, I’ve had to cut out so many carbs to get an average of about 122.
