Fired apprentice
For context I’m 19 years old about to turn 20, I just got fired after 3 weeks working for a trim carpenter due to him wanting “someone with more experience” I got the job cause I wanted to learn carpentry as a side but my main goal is to become a paid fireman but carpentry was my backup I also have no college. I’ll be honest the owner was kind of a dick the whole first week. I was upfront about my experience and told him I know nothing, he would get pissed when I wouldn’t know something or do it fast enough when I started and I was nervous to ask questions because he would say it’s not that complicated.
Not to make excuses but I have diagnosed ADHD and sometimes certain tasks need to be explained to me more than once in detail, and tend to overthink alot of the tasks, I know tha about myself so I went back to therapy and plan on speaking to a psychiatrist for ways I can help myself. I would ask questions more than once, not to show that I wasn’t learning but to clarify on things and tasks. The next week he was fine and more chill but still occasionally a dick but not as much and it actually felt like I was doing really good and starting to get the hang of it. I even helped him on a weekend. I thought I did all the right things by getting the tools he wanted, I was never late, I only called out sick once and offered to bring a doctors note and was taking this opportunity seriously. Then I got the call today I wasn’t needed and he didn’t have time to teach and wanted someone less green and said “this ain’t working out” 🫤
Quite frankly right now I’m very discouraged and worried to tell my parents how I got let go again. 8 months ago I tried plumbing and was fired but I’ll be honest I deserved it I didn’t take that opportunity seriously and hated doing service calls so I used that experience to know what not to do at this trade. Just feeling beat down by life rn and don’t know what to tell my mother who was very lenient and supportive of my decision at the time to learn a trade rather than college but now I gotta tell her I screwed another thing up. Don know what to do any advice helps.
