Hi! I have a smoke cleansing question

So I’m aware using white sage, eagle feather and shell for cleansing is a closed practice. I’ve seen some say that smudging is synonymous with smoke cleansing and therefore still appropriation. (The suggested links take me to 404 pages, but I did try to look elsewhere first)

I was born in India, Indian ancestry, and we also have smoke cleansing with incenses or herbs and resin and there is sage that grows there too that’s used in our traditions sometimes.

So I’m just curious if it’s a specific kind of sage or a specific way of using that sage because when I tried to google it I’m seeing mixed reviews. I’m also seeing a lot of hits from non-inidgenous people and I obv won’t take their word for it. Is it any sage that is native to the Americas? (I'm seeing a note that using the word native is offensive but I’m using it in the contexts of plants so I’m hoping that doesn’t offend anyone)

Sending my love and gratitude to you.
