Do you enjoy survival horror games because of the gameplay or despite it?
I'm a game dev brainstorming ideas for future games and was wondering: do we all actually enjoy exploring the apartment blocks of SH or the manors of RE1 or RE7, searching for (and managing) limited resources and solving puzzles while dealing with a few enemies here and there or are we just doing it for the vibes, story and/or nostalgia?
My gut says I do genuinely enjoy the gameplay but I feel like my main motivator for playing these games is the story rather than the gameplay.
I'm not sure if I'd play a SH-like without a good story, for example, even if the puzzles were well designed and the combat tense.
