Dylan meets Bourdain
I'd love to find books that read like Dylan songs - thick with references, pop culture, symbolism, surrealism even. For those unfamiliar with his music: Think Gilmore Girls dialogue on steroids, Everything Everywhere All At Once in song form, Allen Ginsberg if he was into traditional folk songs and could actually sing.
Anthony Bourdain's language in Kitchen Confidential was a great contender, but his follow up books did nothing for me. Hunter S. Thompson is great too. Checking out Tom Wolfe right now.
The Beat Poets' novels (e.g. On the road) don't offer enough literary or imaginary "width" for my taste. I really like books that go into history, literature, pop culture, the 60s, all kinds of things, yet are grounded in reality, AND offer an intriguing plot.
Thank you❤️
