Poor picture quality because, what can you do? I wanted to give Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a try with the Labo VR mode in the new Virtual Boy for Nintendo Switch 2/Nintendo Switch device. Unfortunately, the mode won't accept any inputs if the Joy-Con 2/Joy-Con controllers aren't physically attached to the sides of the console, and the Switch 2/Switch won't actually fit inside of the Virtual Boy device with any controllers attached. So you can connect the controllers, start a match, and then put it in the VB... but you can't actually play, you can only watch the computer players.

That said, the stereoscopic 3D IS pretty cool. If you take the VB device off of the stand and hold it to your head, you can move your head around to look around the stage while the characters are fighting. I did enjoy getting to look around the stage to see a little more of it than you'd normally see, and from unique viewpoints. That's about it, though... controls to do things like focus in on specific characters are obviously absent (since you can't use any inputs at all between the player select screen and the end of the match.) I'd really like it if there were a patch for playing SSBU with the controllers detached so that you could play with the VB device, but then again I suppose that isn't what it's made for. Maybe it'll work better for games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

I took the red lenses off for it to better see what was going on, but if you leave the red filters on, it's pretty funny too. Really gives it a fake, "this is Smash Bros. on the Virtual Boy!" feeling. (Hence the photograph.) You can barely see the Pikachu sleeping on the red screen in my photograph, but his ears end in the black tips on the left if that helps you see it. It does look better in person, though--you CAN make out the Pikachu and read the full text when you have the device actually on your head. The red filters really bring out the scan lines! But either way, the lenses in the device line up pretty well with the viewports on the screen so you can see everything that you would in a hypothetical Labo VR, I think. (I never did play with one, so I can't speak from experience.) Anyways, just wanted to share! Enjoy the **CHU**
