First-aid help

I encountered an elderly person that fell and received three different face lacerations. I helped her call her husband and waited with her but I wasn't prepared to do anything about her bleeding. I had tissue and wet wipes but nothing good enough. (I also didn't have gloves, which I will now be getting). Is there a good absorbent product you all could recommend? Not gauze, that would be enough. My biggest regret was not having gloves, this was not a life or death situation but I'm sure a comforting hand hold or shoulder rub would have been appreciated....I just wasn't going to do it ungloved (I always have hand cuts). I appreciate the assistance.
