A strange highway incident

Something very strange happened to me a few months ago. I was riding my bike on a straight and open highway in the afternoon when a camel suddenly came running across the road right in front of me. In my area, there are plenty of camels, but they never roam around on their own. They are always with their owner or pulling a cart. I somehow managed to avoid it and continued riding ahead.

After a moment, I turned around to see where it had gone. There were no trees anywhere and the entire stretch was flat with a clear view in every direction, yet the camel had completely disappeared. For such a big animal to vanish within seconds made no sense at all.

Later when I mentioned this to someone, they said that on certain road stretches people sometimes see animals that are not actually there and those areas often have many accidents. I cannot say how true that is, but the incident felt genuinely strange to me.
