Dream of the city with the weird, thin bridge
On the night of Sunday, February 1, 2026, I had a long and vivid dream that I only remember fragments of. In the dream, my partner and I were supposed to travel to a city abroad to attend some sort of festival or other event. I don’t remember what it was about. But I remember being in the city and leaving the hotel. The city was a European city with beautiful, classical architecture that I admired; it was winter and evening. At one point, I came to a small river in the city that was frozen over. To get across it, you had to slide down an icy slope, over the frozen river, and then up a hill on the other side that was just as frozen. It was very slippery, and I was worried about crossing. But then there was another person there who said to me, ‘Jonas Gahr Støre said that all Norwegians can walk on icy terrain like this.’ (As a note to non-Norwegians, Jonas Gahr Støre is the current prime minister of Norway.) So I had to give it a try. I slid down the hill and managed to stay upright as I sped down, over the river, and across to the other side, where I painstakingly climbed up the icy hill to the other side.
I continued along a deserted road, which looked like it lay on a kind of pier made of large stone blocks, with the frozen river on both sides. Eventually, the road led to a sort of warehouse located at the end of the pier; it had large doors that were wide open. It was very dark inside, and it scared me. I realized I had reached a dead end, turned around, and went back the same way again. I returned to the place where I had crossed the river, but instead of attempting the icy spot again, I kept going, hoping to find an easier way to get to the other side. Eventually, I found a kind of bridge. It was very narrow, just a little wider than a person (about 80 cm), and stood high above the river on thin stilts. It first went quickly upwards (45 degrees or more) before continuing horizontally high above the river to the other side. The strangest thing was that the bridge had sides and a roof made of some kind of flexible tarpaulin or plastic, and the roof hung only about 70 centimeters above the floor. So I had to crawl upwards inside the bridge to get across. When I had crawled to the top of the bridge, I noticed that there were cracks or holes in the tarpaulin along the edges that allowed you to peek out over the city. I looked at various buildings and streets far away. On one street, I saw a scary, enormous, and dark creature that looked like a fat troll with wings. It was hard to make out any details, but it turned here and there and raised and lowered the wings sticking out of its back. I continued to crawl further through the narrow bridge to the other side, and walked through the city to find my way back to the hotel.
The only other thing I remember from the dream is that my partner and I were at the airport to fly home after the vacation. There was a counter where you had to show your papers to get through, and it stressed me out. We both got through, but then I realized I had forgotten my watch in the waiting area before the counter. I sneaked back, fetched the watch, and continued on the journey home.
