I built a Chrome extension that blurs sensitive info during screen sharing

What it does: ContextBlur lets you instantly blur any area of your screen – passwords, notifications, DMs, salary info – with one click. Everything runs locally in your browser.

The problem: I was on a work call and almost showed a Slack DM I really didn’t want anyone to see. We’ve all been there. I looked for a simple solution and couldn’t find one that wasn’t clunky, so I built my own.

How it works: Toggle the extension, select what you want to blur, and it stays blurred until you turn it off. No accounts, no data collection, no cloud – it’s all client-side.

Stack: Built with vanilla JS and CSS filters. Kept it lightweight on purpose – no frameworks, no permissions beyond the active tab.

Where I’m at: Just launched on the Chrome Web Store. Currently free. Working on adding keyboard shortcuts and preset blur zones you can save per site.

Would love to hear your thoughts – especially on what would make you actually keep an extension like this installed long-term.
