I have had to completely start over after breakup. He has not. How do I get through this?

I have had to quit my job and move back in with my family in my hometown. It is quiet, boring, and very isolated. I am going to get an easy office job that I don’t want at all, to save and move to NYC (which was always my dream, never his).

As far as I know (blocked him after the breakup and have no plans to contact him) he’s moved back in with his own parents, who are very rich, in the city we were both living in. He still has all his old friends, his same job, finishing his same degree. His life is logistically entirely unaffected. He can already start dating new people (and I know this, because it’s part of the reason he wanted to break-up with me - I was “boring” and he needed new romances).

I spent the last three months desperately thinking that I could move to NYC immediately, despite my zero savings. I went there for a day last week, to finalize accommodation and have a job interview, and I realised I really do need to pause this dream. I have to just get a job here for a few months, and be desolate and depressed, while he gets to stay thriving.

I know that once I do get to NYC, with better savings and better job experience, and on my own terms, I will definitely be feeling better. And I know that I shouldn’t think or care about what he’s doing compared to me.

That’s why I’m here, asking for advice. I’m sure I’m not the only person who was literally left with nothing after a breakup, and had to completely start over. Please, how do I accept this humility? How do I swallow my pride, buckle down, and get to work for the sake of a better future?
