Namgyu and boemseok

Helloo I would love to share my thoughts on my two ult shows and specifically these two characters and their nearer contacts.

This will be a longer post :)

THIS IS MY INTERPRETATION AND OPINION

So namgyu is a player in a game of life and death while boemsoek is a high school student who lives in the trenches of love and comfort who ends up hurting his friends, right?

Not much similarities there but if we look deeper into it we see both of them have their own friend groups who they grow very fond of.

Here's a first major similaritie between them:

In their friend groups who, neither of them is really the leader. While namgyu at some points thinks he is, it's thanos and he hides behind him, lurks and watches, follows his lead so if something happens he could blame thanos. Boemsoek sees himself as a third wheel between suho and sieun when in reality, even though he might have a different bond with them than the two of them have, he's an equal, under the protection of suho and if needed, sieun too. Due to his trauma he can't fully grasp that.

So let's go further, namgyu's bond with thanos is simple to explain, thanos is confident, cocky and a smart ass BUT will protect namgyu because he considered him a friend. (Always his first choice, partner in crime, knows namgyu will do as said.) well let's trace that back to suho and beomseok. Who's also confident, cocky and somewhat of a smartass? Yeah suho. He would protect sieun and beomseok at every cost.. and did.

That's one correlation between them that sparks my interest in the similarities between them but we're just getting started.

When I really noticed the similarities was when thanos kicked the bucket and namgyu lost his mind. His only friend was gone, the only person he trusted in there, the only person he could hide behind. And he fell into (drug induced) psychotic range.

When boemseok on the other hand felt like he was being replaced, left and pushed out. He as well fell into a psychotic episode (trance) he couldn't escape.

Namgyu and boemseok both then found new people to hang around with (they weren't good for them) = myunggi & the bullies.

But they both felt superior to them and felt like they had the upper hand. = namgyu felt he had the control over myunggi- he decided who to off and when. = boemseok had the money to, to put it bluntly, make the bullies his bitches and let them think they were in charge but he wasn't alone.

This is another big thing, both of them were desperately trying not to be alone as they were incredibly scared of that. You can see that on multiple occasions.

This post is getting hella long and I have so much to say😭😭

But let me tell you the parallel that SHOCKED ME.

When si eun found out about beomseok and suho he walked into the classroom and confronted him. Boemseok didn't try to act cool or fight, he knew it was him and he let it happen and let si eun be "in charge" and belittled himself.

When namgyu realized he'd lost the necklace and minsu found it, he also didn't try to act cool or fight him, he let minsu be "in charge" and belittled himself.

Both of them (even if persumably) died/disappeared exactly after that scene.

What I want to say with this post is that these characters are often characterized as the villains, one of them being the "cutsie little freak" while the other Straight up got named the devil.

I wish I could say so much more about the similarities but I'll summarise the key's here :)

- both insecure, lonely guys who hide behind a more confident and safe person

- both crashing out after their friend vanished.

- both smart, calculated and strategic

- both manipulating their new friend groups for their advantage

- both psychotic break

- both clinging to their friends as a way to appear stronger and more powerful

Love them both :)
