Marriage
I need some genuine advice. I'm a Sudanese national and asylum seeker currently living in Egypt. I've met an amazing woman—she's Portuguese but lives and works in Germany. We love each other deeply, and I want to marry her because of who she is, not for a visa. She feels the same way.
But we're stuck. We don't know what to do.
Our situation:
· I'm in Egypt with asylum seeker status (not Egyptian) · She's in Germany (Portuguese citizen, working there) · We want to be together, build a life, get married
The questions keeping us up at night:
- Should she come to Egypt so we can marry here? I honestly don't want her to live in Egypt—it's not safe or stable for her, and that's not the future I want for us. But is that the only way?
- If we marry (wherever), can I join her in Germany? What's the process for a Sudanese asylum seeker in Egypt to get a family reunification visa to Germany? Is it even possible?
- How long does this take? We just want to be together and start our lives.
- Will German authorities see this as suspicious because I'm a Sudanese asylum seeker and she's EU? I'm terrified they'll think I'm using her, but I'm not. I love her. She's my person.
- Any advice from binational couples who've navigated this? Especially Sudanese/German or similar?
I just want to hold her. I don't know which country to aim for or how to make this work without putting her at risk or looking like I have bad intentions. Please be kind—this is already really hard.
