Vintage Drumsmiths: Need advice on removing REALLY stubborn old adhesive.

I'm turning back the clock on a botched re-wrap and I wonder what works other than low and slow with a heat gun? ;) Because that is really going badly and slowly.

Is there any solvent that I could dip them in that wouldn't ruin the glue in the re-rings? Thanks
