Orange Juice vs. Apple Juice

Discussion

I was at a supermarket where a person at the customer service counter started to slump forward and broke into a cold sweat. I recognized it as a hypoglycemic reaction. I confirmed she was a diabetic on insulin. I rushed to the juice aisle, got a six pack of kiddy apple juice boxes, and gave her one. In about fifteen minutes, she started to recover. Her daughter was contracted about the situation and picked her up.

The store manager berated me for giving her apple juice rather than orange juice. He used to be a paramedic and they were told that OJ is best to give in that situation.

I like Apple juice because a kiddie sized container is around 15g of sugar which is considered a unit of carbohydrates. I also find apple juice easier to drink and less likely to cause stomach upset and vomiting. A box of juice is also less likely to spill.

Yet, it seems that orange juice is what is still recommended for treating hypoallergenic episodes. What is the advantage of orange juice over other juices?
