OHSS (34f, PCOS)

Trigger Warning

TW: high number of eggs retrieved

Hi all! I have pretty extreme PCOS (I do not ovulate or have a period naturally) and was told I would likely need to do IVF to get pregnant, so decided to do embryo freezing ahead of time with my partner.

I was told that I have a high follicle count for my age, it that is typical for PCOS apparently. At baseline ultrasound they said they saw 30 follicles.

Today had my retrieval, and they got 54 eggs and 46 were mature. I was flabbergasted. So, so wild. The doctors were also very surprised. Just got really lucky.

Now, 10 or so hours after my egg retrieval procedure, I am extremely uncomfortable - some shooting pains and a really tight abdomen that makes me feel like I can’t take super deep breaths. I also have gained about 4.8 pounds in the last 48 hours since morning after trigger shot when I last weighed myself. I’m doing my best to eat protein and drink only electrolytes, and using heating pad and stool softeners, but man, I’m so uncomfortable.

I’m reaching out to the clinic to let them know, but sounds like I have decently bad OHSS which I know is more common with people who had large number of eggs extracted.

I’m wondering if anyone else here has had similar egg count retrieved and what your experience was like? Or if anyone had bad OHSS and what you were able to do about it / how long it lasted?

PS - can’t say enough good things about Spring Fertility in SF. They were so on top of medication calibration & monitoring to make sure I had the best results possible. They are *so* expensive though!!

PPS - happy to share more about my dosages or journey if it would be helpful to anyone!
