Clutch slipping in low temperatures? (<0°F)
2018 Focus ST. Unmodified w/ 115k miles. Original clutch (I think)... I'll have to check though.
I was pretty concerned to notice clutch slippage a few weeks ago, when temperatures were below 0°F (often like -10°F). It was occurring mostly in first, accelerating from a stop, when over 50%-ish throttle. It happened a bit in second too, accompanied by shuddering (clutch re-"biting"?), but I didn't push hard enough to test any other gears.
At 115k miles, I wouldn't be surprised if my clutch is going. I'd estimate the clutch bites once I release the pedal 50% (lower than other manuals I've driven), if that means anything. How does this compare to your guys' ST's?
However, after some hard acceleration/WOT today (~20°F weather), I noticed no slippage.
Were the cold temperatures likely causing my issues? Does cold normally cause clutch slippage like this in manual cars? Feedback is appreciated :)
