Can I say no?

Mom is 75, an alcoholic, extremely frail, with a multitude of health issues. I live 3+ hours away and am back in her life after many years of low contact. I’ve gone from zero to sixty in terms of involvement in about two and a half months.

One of the first things that happened was I finally got her back to the doctor after years of her not going. They are working with me on getting her evaluated by a neurologist. I am now travelling to her city weekly and even biweekly for medical appointments and caretaking tasks. It’s rough and expensive. She needs B12 shots for 5 weeks, and will be seeing the neurologist next week. After that they have her scheduled for a pelvic ultrasound and a mammogram.

This is where I question the necessity. Two years ago I guess they saw uterine thickening. So suppose that means she could have uterine cancer. If she did have cancer of any kind, it doesn’t seem to me that surfer would be in her best interest. So I question the utility of these tests. Are they going to think I’m neglectful or abusive if I object to them?

I would absolutely have to take her, or figure out how to hire somebody to do it for me.
