When people refer to an individual album as a "body of work"
A "body of work" is defined as follows:
*noun*
**the total output of a writer or artist (or a substantial part of it)**
It is NOT simply a single album from an artist. It would be their whole discography.
We can blame retired rapper and current hip-hop podcaster Joe Budden for popularizing the phrase on hip-hop Twitter. Now everyone thinks it's a synonym for an album and they try to sound enlightened by saying it.
Examples straight from Twitter:
"J. Cole outdid himself on this album. A thorough, carefully curated body of work."
"Friday Night Lights is Cole’s best body of work"
"50 cent the massacre was a super slept on body of work"
We gotta do better as a people. Words and phrases have meaning. You can't just make up new definitions all willy nilly.
