Did I misread his intentions?
I'm a 19F and back in December while at work I was stuck doing some boring job with a guy that I had never met before. We started talking about random stuff because we didn't really have much to do. For context I have horrible social anxiety, so I wasn't enjoying this conversation at all. But I was acting normal and friendly and by the end of it he asked if I wanted to hang out with him sometime. I said yes just to be polite, but really I did not want to. He ended up being moved to do some other job so I thought that that would be the end of it. However, about an hour later he comes back around and asks me again to hang out asking when I was free and I said "Oh whenever you are" and then he left again. During the next shift he asked me for my number and I gave it to him and we ended up scheduling a time to hang out. For context we were planning on going rock climbing. We both go to the same college and all of this was happening around finals week so we both ended up canceling because we were both busy with finals.
After that nothing happens between us since we are both on winter break for a month. Once I got back to school and to work however in January, he asks me again to hang out but over text. At this point, I'm thinking that he's asking me out. I mean he never called it a date, but a guy asking a girl to hang out would mean that, right? Anyways, since I'm still not interested I wait 2 weeks to reply to this text and during this time we still occasionally talking to each other at work. We only work the same shift once a week so that's the only time we see each other. Now this was happening when we had that big snow storm blow through so we both agreed to wait until things calmed down to try to do anything. That takes me to this week. He texted me asking how I was doing and mentioned that another on of my friends who worked there sad that I was struggling in one of my classes. Idk why he was talking to one of my friends about me but whatever. He then asks to hang out again and this is where I messed up. I said: "Hey, I’ve been thinking. I really enjoy talking to you and everything, but I’m really not ready to get into a relationship right now. I’m sorry if you felt like I was leading you on" He responds 7 hours later saying: "Noo I just wanted to know if u wanted to hang out, I'm not looking for a relationship aswell and I'm way too old for you" "I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong idea" "I just enjoy talking to you and wanted to see if we could hang outside of work is all" "Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression 😅"
I feel like such an idiot right now. I mean it sounds like he's being honest, I believe him. But I don't know it just doesn't really make sense to me as to why he would want to only be friends with me? I'm horribly embarrassed, I'm considering quitting my job over this so that I don't have to face him again. I'm hoping that maybe y'all can help me calm down I'm probably overreacting like crazy and over analyzing. Idk I genuinely thought that he was into me or something. Do you think he was just lying when he sent this to me? I know y'all probably think that I'm pathetic for even posting about this on reddit. Idk I'm just trying to calm down right now I'm so embarrassed.
