Software for Urban Planning (Hons)

I am currently thinking about buying a new laptop for university. I’ve always used windows but I am thinking of switching to a MacBook, but I know some software maybe incompatible with apple. Can anyone who has or is currently doing urban planning tell me what software I am expected to use? Thank you!
