I passed the FE Mechanical — sharing what helped me most

Tips

I recently passed the FE Mechanical and wanted to share a few things that made the biggest difference in my prep, especially after feeling stuck earlier on.

The biggest shift for me was realizing the exam is less about memorizing and more about:

• Knowing where to find equations quickly in the handbook

• Recognizing common problem types

• Being comfortable with core topics like statics, thermo, and fluids

• Managing time and not getting stuck too long on one question

Practicing by topic instead of only doing mixed exams helped me rebuild confidence in weaker areas.

Now that I’m on the other side of it, I’ve been helping a few friends prepare and it’s been interesting to see how similar the common struggles are especially handbook navigation and knowing what to prioritize.

For those currently studying or who passed recently what helped you the most? Or what do you find most challenging right now?
