Something feels different about modern lego, is it just me?

Question

Been years since I've done a Lego build as a kid, bought the Saturn V a few years ago and was a fun build, but something felt a bit out about the quality of the plastic compared to the Lego I grew up with in the 80s and 90s.

My observations:
Plastic feels softer and not so tight a fit, some pieces i felt did not fit so tight and were easy to knock off, in particular the smaller pieces that only are held on by a single stud.
Other small pieces appeared to show marks from the mould and had half round sections missing on some of the studs.
I have never noticed this on older Lego pieces from memory.
Im not going to take the model apart to get a photo, but it was an observation I noticed.
Did Lego change to a softer ABS plastic formula and change additives I wonder?

I can see some reasons for doing so if it makes dismantling easier perhaps?
I also remember when un-opening new Lego from the era of the perforated bags that it had a unique smell that ive never observed with anything else made of plastic, particularly ABS.
Is this just me, or does anyone else recollect this?
