I'm building a marketplace that lets gamers rent out their idle GPUs to AI developers. Would you use this?
Hello everyone! My names Chris. I've been lurking for a while and I've been wanting to share what I've been working on.
I'm the Founder & CEO of Aethon, the Airbnb for GPUs. Our marketplace has two sides, Suppliers and Renters.
Suppliers
-
Windows desktop app you can download, click "Start Earning", and your GPU is auto-detected
-
'Gamer Mode', a c++ agent that detects when you launch a game, auto-pauses workloads instantly, and resumes when you're done. We wanted zero friction
-
Loyalty rank system (Bronze->Silver->Gold) that lowers platform fees the longer you stay active (25%->20%->15%)
-
Hardware safety with temperature monitoring, auto-pausing at high temps, and VRAM guards
-
Payouts via Stripe or Steam gift cards (Since some gamers might prefer games, not bank transfers)
Renters
-
Per-second billing so you can pay for what you actually compute. Think 50 image generations for ~$0.12 instead of rounding up to a full hour.
-
OpenAI-compatible API, swap one line of code and save up to 60% or more on inference
-
Free tier with no credit card required
-
One-click model deployment (LLaMA, Stable Diffusion, Whisper)
-
Python SDK
At the moment, the Supplier app is functional, just making it look neat. Renter-side MVP is actively being built (results retrieval, billing, the API layer, the fun stuff). Two University students, bootstrapped, no funding.
What makes you different from Vast / Salad / RunPod?
To us, the feature Gamer Mode is a big one. This feature allows for people to put their GPU up for rent and not have to think about 'Oh i have to turn it on' or 'oh, i forgot to turn it off before gaming'. Not only that, but our per-second billing vs per-hour everywhere else sets us apart. We want to reward loyalty, and treat our suppliers like humans, so we implemented the Gamified rank system. Finally, we're built for consumer GPUs (RTX 3060+), not enterprise hardware.
We're not trying to compete with AWS for enterprise workloads. This is for indie devs, researchers, small teams, and hobbyists who are currently spending too much on OpenAI/Replicate and would rather run open-source models cheaper.
Our honest status is we are pre-revenue, early stage. As I mentioned, the supplier side works, but the renter side is being built out now. We're looking for early feedback!
I would love to hear
-
Would you use this as a renter? As a supplier?
-
What would make or break it for you?
-
Any features you'd want to see?
We have plenty of features in the works POST-LAUNCH (like AMD gpus, and non-AI workloads!)
