Nail upgrades worth it??

!My friend and I were having a debate- he claims that upgrading your nail is a net negative, as the increase in boss health effectively nerfs your spells. I argue that the nail damage is well worth it, and the increased health doesn’t apply to regular enemies/godhome anyway. Is there any truth in what he‘s saying or is he just wrong?!<
