Update: I washed my hair!!
Thank you to those who commented on my post yesterday-> https://www.reddit.com/r/adhdwomen/s/lNxu6SOoKD
Still have a hair towel on to help it dry but it's clean and I feel happier for getting it done!
I watch Girl With the Dogs on YouTube who grooms dogs and cats that are usually more challenging. She focuses on making them feel comfortable while still getting all the stages done as best as she can. She's aware that they don't like certain things but shows a lot of patience to get her job done.
So I just spoke out loud to myself while I showered as if I was "grooming" someone else. It meant I wasn't focusing on all of the uncomfortable sensations. If I started thinking too much about how I felt, I just told myself what step I was doing and why it was necessary.
It really helped to keep me focused and not get overwhelmed by my usual triggers like hair touching my body or water dripping onto my face when I get out to dry myself. Calling this a win until next time!
