Question for long-time Daytona fans, what was the quarter mile short track behind the old Daytona grandstands seen in this 2000 aerial shot used for?

This is an aerial shot from the 2000 Daytona 250. I have only been to Daytona on a semi-annual basis since 2021, so I did not experience the track during NASCAR's peak in popularity and pre-Daytona Rising. What was the quarter mile dirt track behind those stands (right where the tri-oval and pit exit are) used for? Was it a go-kart track for young racers, or a professional track for teenagers/young adults, or something else?
