Small business owner now accepting physical Goldbacks looking for guidance from the community
Hey everyone, I am a small business owner and long time believer in asset backed exchange. I recently decided to start accepting physical Goldbacks by mail as a payment option on my website. I am not here to hype it. I genuinely want to build a functional and respectful way to transact in Goldbacks and would really value input from people here who have been doing this longer than I have. Here is how I am currently handling it. Customers select “Pay with Goldbacks” at checkout. They mail physical Goldbacks to my business address. Payments are collected and verified Monday through Saturday. Orders ship only after the Goldbacks are physically received and verified. Value is credited based on the publicly published exchange rate on the date they are received. If the amount received is lower than the order total we contact the customer to complete the balance. If the amount received is higher than the order total we issue store credit for the difference. I recommend tracked mail and orders remain on hold until payment clears.
My reasoning for using the processing date for valuation is that I do not want to lock in a rate before the asset is physically in hand. That said, I am open to being corrected if there is a better or more standard approach.
A few things I would love feedback on: Is processing date valuation typical or do most merchants lock the rate at checkout?
Are there common dispute issues I should anticipate Is accepting physical mail still common or are most people shifting toward digital options where available?
Are there best practices I should implement from the start to avoid friction?
I respect what Goldbacks represent and I want to implement this in a way that aligns with that philosophy.
Appreciate any constructive insight.
