Found this article from Breaking The News and apparently over 300,000 users reported the outage. And that's probably underselling it because Downdetector was showing numbers way higher than that at peak.
From what I read online, people were getting either a completely blank screen or that useless "Something Went Wrong — Try Again" error. Spoiler: hitting Try Again did absolutely nothing.

The wild part is it wasn't just the main site. YouTube TV went down too, so people who literally pay for the service got hit as well. Some users said their subscriptions tab still worked and direct channel links loaded fine, but the homepage, Shorts feed, and recommendations were completely gone.
It also wasn't just a US thing. Reports were coming in from the UK, Europe, and parts of Asia so this was clearly something on Google's end — likely a server-side issue with their content delivery infrastructure from what people were saying in the tech forums.
Google has said nothing officially about it which is honestly the most YouTube thing ever.

Anyway just sharing in case anyone else is sitting there refreshing and wondering what's going on. You're not alone, it's not your internet, and apparently this is the third time YouTube has had a notable outage in the last few months which... yikes.
Drop in the comments where you're from and if you got hit too. Curious how widespread this actually was.
