I corrected a fluent Ukrainian on the pronunciation of my surname
I went to a local restaurant and checked in for my reservation. And the hostess (who I forgot was from Ukraine) read my name back to me. I didn’t compute and I said my name back to her in the most midwestern, americanized way possible (my name has been getting butchered all my life but I keep my maiden name proudly).
I don’t want to share my **full** surname. But can anyone confirm how дидик is pronounced in Ukrainian? I say did-ick. My dad and grandma were from Ukraine but they passed when I was young so I rarely encounter other Ukrainians IRL to help me. I’ve met a couple and they don’t say it as harshly as I learned to pronounce it.
