Teacher Support &/or Advice

I’ve had a rocky start to my career- I’m 4 years in and literally walked out of a school 17 days into the school year, then went to teach in a different district. Been at my current school for 2 years but the admin is the most controlling, data hungry person I’ve ever met in my life.

I love the kids .. I love teaching.. but I hate the burnout, insane workload, constant overstimulation, and allll the planning that goes into a day of teaching (I teach 2nd grade and we have 3 periods) my mid year conference was horrid- my scores were good (but not good enough), my room is unorganized and dirty, I send kids to the nurse too much, and my classroom management is apparently terrible (it’s really not…)

All of this made me really discouraged a couple of weeks ago, and honestly I was so upset I missed 2 days of work being “sick” (really just not wanting to show up after that horrible conference) because I felt like I had given my 110% for absolutely nothing. I was genuinely depressed..

All of this to say- during that time I applied for other jobs. One being a program coordinator at a college in my town. I won’t have the summers “off” but there are Christmas breaks, Thanksgiving, spring break, etc. and it is an 8-4 hybrid position with an hour lunch break making around 5k less than I am now as a teacher. (Which I can financially handle)

Well. The job just reached out to me for an interview. And now I don’t know how to feel.. my daughter started going to school with me this year (in kindergarten) and would feel horrible not being at the school anymore. I’ve been able to walk her to class every morning and occasionally see her around the school.. and I just hate to leave her there without me.. I always imagined us going to school “together” all of her elementary years.

Also, this would be the SECOND time me leaving during the school year. They didn’t suspend my cert last time but I’m 100% sure they would this time. So it’s kind of burning a bridge with this district & my cert.

Do I go forward with the interview or should I leave it? No I’m not happy with my job. Yes I think I’d be happier at the college. But I love the time off I have with my daughter. I’m just not sure what to do.
