Battery Replacement Gone Wrong?

Just switched out the battery on my 30GB 5th gen classic. It's been displaying the "battery very low" message. I've left it plugged into a power bank, and just connected it to my computer. No charge at all after around 30 minutes. The battery connector is good, and the ribbon is fully plugged in. Does it just need time to charge, or is it borked?
