Unpopular opinion: Jean Delamer is a character who harms everyone else.

Spoiler

After the prologue and chapter 1, I think I'm fed up with Jean. She's a character who steals way too much screen time when they should be more balanced.

The team's intention was to reverse the "Dumb Muscleman" trope, but they went to the other extreme, and honestly, she feels like a Barbie doll who has to know about every possible subject to "contribute" to the case, even when it's not her job, overshadowing others:

  • They're talking about medications? Instead of consulting with Ulysses, who mentioned having pharmaceutical knowledge, Jean jumps in.

They're talking about car batteries and the bad smell they give off? Instead of consulting with Jett, Jean jumps in.

-They're having a video game event? Okay, Eva's a geek and it makes sense for her to be there, Mark sets the scene, Jett and Cassidy obviously love video games, Damon's forced to go but he's relevant to the case. BUT WHAT'S JEAN DOING THERE? She just happens to have video game consoles on her ship. Toshiko could have gone and it would have felt less forced; she's a kid, it's normal for her to want to play.

-Rock, paper, scissors? You play it with Jean.

-Did Wolfgang blackmail Jean? Please... There were other options!!!

I know I might be exaggerating, but the role they're trying to give him feels so out of place. I can still understand what they're trying to do. They don't want Jean to be a Nekomaru, a useless character. His leadership position is way too prominent. And thank goodness that, even though I dislike Kai, it's better that he and Damon share a room. If Damon shared a room with Jean, that would be the last straw...

I don't know what their intentions are for him in the future. He probably won't die in the fourth episode, as usually happens regardless of whether he's a victim, a murderer, or an executioner, but the fact that he's taking up so much screen time diminishes the other characters. In less time, characters like Ulysses showed more potential for development. Even Kai, despite being dim-witted, helped with the case, but they weren't constantly interrupting.
