The Ruger American Ranch Gen II in .300 Blackout has brought me satisfaction for contradictory reasons.

I enjoy the 'tinkering' aspect of guns and gear, and this little rifle has been quite a bit of fun in that aspect, so I thought I'd share my story. At the time, I had my first suppressor (AB Raptor 7.62 with reflex extension) going through and wanted to have something other than an AR to put it on. The Ruger American rifles were ticklin my tingly bits because they weren't too expensive and had some fun aftermarket options. So picked one up for a little over $700.

Took it home, slapped an optic on it (some PA 1x6), and began cycling snap caps like a mad man. This worked quite nicely to smooth out and build familiarity with the action. With all of that being said, I wasn't able to free the muzzle device for my first range session because it came pre-installed with God's personal supply of rocksett. Like Jesus Christ are we allergic to muzzle devices lol

Took it home, cleared the muzzle device, eventually swapped the stock/chassis with a Sharps Heatseeker chassis, added a pic adapter and a Midwest industries AK adjustable/ folding stock. Now, why would I add ~$700 worth of parts onto a ~$700 gun? Because I have a problem.

Anywho, this has become one of my favorite rifles. Why? Because .300 drops like a sack of shit. I only have access to a ~300 yard range, and learning the drop between 110gr and 220gr has been exceptionally fun. Because I don't have access to longer ranges, getting time on a round that flies like a goldfish has been a great change in pace from firing 5.56 for a decade. Also suppressed bolt action subs are *fuggin noice*.

This has certainly been a fun time to tinker with, including a few interesting challenges along the way. As an example my reflex suppressor mount wouldnt fit with the chassis as there was about 1" of rail material blocking it. So I uh..... Removed 1" of rail...

Probably the funnest gun tinker project in a while...
