6 Month Follow Up - No Recurrence.
35 gay male - had anal condyloma surgery in August, only one growth inside that was removed with cautery. No external or internal returned, but was a bit surprised when my doctor referred to the internal condyloma as dysplasia. I never recalled seeing any mention of dysplasia in my previous and post surgical notes, but low and behold - there it was in my biopsy result after the removal, it was in another tab on MyChart I never saw - AIN 3!
To say it took the wind out of my sails would be an understatement. I thought I just had a low-risk strain this whole time. Im trying to remain optimistic because the doctor saw nothing internally and I've gone 6 months with nothing coming back, but I will have to do an anal pap in another 6 months to confirm that there are no abnormal cells present. In an odd way I guess I should be glad I had warts as otherwise I'd have never known about the dysplasia until was too late.
I was really hoping the check up would have been the beginning of the end for this nightmare, but now Im petrified about this pap smear. I cant seem to find too much literature on AIN 3 - most studies seem to focus on its role in HIV+ men, but I am HIV- and the rates for effective treatment seem very broad as to provide no real answers. Just feel deflated but thought I'd share. Im officially at the one year mark since I discovered my warts, so im hoping the 6 months "clear" so far as I know is a positive.
