Ai issue
So there’s a post on here that has an AI generated fight scene between Wanda vs Carol. Many people in that specific comment section are losing their minds over it. I’m making this to simply say something…
Whether you love or hate AI-generated stuff like the Scarlet Witch vs Captain Marvel video, shitting on the creator (or even just the person who posted it) is over the line. You don’t have to like AI art/videos which is fair, but that doesn’t give ANYONE a free pass to be a dick to people sharing creative experiments or fun content. Data centers overall (including all the non-AI stuff) are around 1% of global electricity and ~0.5% of emissions right now, with AI being a growing slice but still tiny compared to fossil fuels, transportation, heavy industry, agriculture, or even streaming/video services that we all use daily. AI is a smaller fish in a much bigger pond of environmental problems. Still an issue, but there are bigger issues at hand. If you people are serious about the planet, maybe save some of that energy for calling out the massive polluters instead of raging at some dude (and even the person who simply posted it) who made a cool AI fight scene.
Let’s not pretend ai is evil. T he exact same compute-heavy stuff powers visual effects in movies and music videos you’ve probably watched. Rendering a single big Hollywood blockbuster (think Marvel-level CGI explosions, digital worlds, etc.) can hit thousands of tons of CO₂—averaging around 2,800–3,400 tons per $70M+ film, with post-production/render farms being a major slice (some reports peg animation/post at 5.5 tons CO₂ per hour of production time). Those render farms? Massive GPU clusters running for days/weeks, same energy suck as AI setups.
And then we all stream the finished product: one hour of Netflix/YouTube/TikTok? Roughly 36–55g CO₂ per viewer (depending on the study/grid). Multiply that by millions bingeing Marvel flicks or music videos daily, and the footprint dwarfs one AI-generated fight scene by a huge margin.
(The above came straight from sources on Google)
Let people create and share without the harassment. Downvote if you hate it, move on if you don’t. Simple. Your dislike for ai is understandable and valid, but many of you in that comment section came across just hateful and mean to the creator of the vid and the person who posted it. If you cannot stay civilized and respectful, then don’t comment on something you don’t understand.
