SUV 2nd row: bench vs captain's seats

Advice Request

Hey y'all! I'm looking for some practical advice regarding the 2nd row. With plans for a second child and upgrading one of our cars to an SUV, I was wondering if captain's seats make any sense. Both my wife and I have really only driven sedans with the rare SUV rental on trips but never with 2 car seats.

With our first baby, car rides were a struggle and one of us would need to be in the back for any car ride >30min for entertainment/interaction. Now that the 1st enjoys car rides a teeny bit more, it's not as big of an issue. However, with a 2nd baby in mind and thinking about 2 bulky car seats (1 infant and 1 graco turn2me), I'm a bit lost. With 2 bulky car seats, is there really even enough room for an adult to sit in the middle? The SUVs we have in mind are (X5, XC90, Telluride, GV80).

Would love to hear your experiences! If that middle seat truly does become useless, then the Telluride goes up higher on the list.
