Question about regeneration stat

Hi, so im thinking of making a build that uses regeneration with lost envoy set etc. But I saw some people say regeneration is only really good for spirit based builds? I know relics have some amount of regen themselves but I don't see why I couldn't make like a mage build using it, wiki says the only thing that effects it is damage affinity of skills (unless its not updated).
