Has the service gone down in recent years?

I was in PR about 15-16 years ago, and I loved every minute of it. In fact, I loved it so much I was even considering moving there. Everyone was very helpful, cheerful and super friendly. I was so exited to take my wife and daughter who have never been there.

We’re now here, and it seems like everywhere you go, nobody’s happy to see you, nobody cares about you as a customer. Zero friendless. Lots of “sour” faces in restaurants, bars. At one hotel bar, which was empty, the bartender didn’t even move her head when we came in, she was on her phone until I said “hi, can we order some drinks”, she then pointed to the pile of menus sitting literally next to her and told us to go grab one. And this is the type of experience we’ve been getting in most places we went to for the past 2 days.

What happened to PR? What happened to people being friendly? Is it just my experience? Is it just San Juan or everywhere across the country?
