New year's gifts - red AND black???

Hello everyone!

I'd like to get a new years gift for a friend. I know red is good for good luck, I know wearable items are favourable (?). My friend has recently started gardening, I'd like to get him a pair of gardening gloves that are red. I can only find red AND black gloves. I know black is not a good colour for a gift culturally. Is it "balanced" by the red? Or should I give up and find something else?
