[WP] Infinite Attempts
If the universe is truly infinite, then within its vastness there must also exist an infinite number of variations of the same reality. Somewhere, there are worlds that differ from ours by only a single second, a single decision, a detail so small it almost escapes notice.
That means there must also be infinite versions of ourselves. Versions in which we never met the people we once loved—we missed them by one street, by one glance. And others, where we stayed with them forever, without doubt, without breakups, without all the what ifs.
There are worlds in which we are happier, and others in which we are far more broken. Versions of us who won all their battles and fulfilled their goals. And also those who lost to themselves and disappeared before they ever understood why—not because of fate, but because chance happened to fall differently this time.
The differences between these worlds don’t have to be dramatic. They aren’t born from great turning points, but from small things: a random delay, a message never sent, a sentence we chose not to say. Details that felt insignificant in the moment, yet in another universe decided everything.
Perhaps the cruelest paradox of all is that we remember only one version of ourselves. All the other lives exist, but remain forever inaccessible—like books in an infinite library for which we were never given the key. We know they are there, but we will never read them.
And paradoxically, this is what gives weight to the reality we live in. Not because it is exceptional or better than the others, but because it is the only one we can feel. The only one in which we can love, regret, hope, and make mistakes.
Maybe it’s comforting to know that somewhere, everything worked out. Not because we wish to be there, but because even this version of us is part of something much greater.
