Bizarre Phone Call (Storytime)
So I'm working at the front desk and there's a phone call, I pick up with the usual greeting and the guy on the phone tells me (not asks mind you) that he was going to be coming by to drop off some garbage on our lot. Obviously I'm confused so I asked him to repeat himself and he did so, even elaborates that it would be remodeling materials such as tiles, nails, and half a tub! I tell him we're an auto parts store but he's insistent. At this point I'm convinced he's a customer or someone screwing with me so I put him on hold and transfer him to the manager expecting to find out later that it was a pro customer putting on a voice as an inside joke(?) with the manager or something...
It was not
I'm putting stock away a short time later when I hear my manager in a raised voice saying that it's not a public dumpster and that O'Reilly pays for the pickup and there is absolutely no way that he's going to be leaving anything on our lot, and that he better not show up with any of his crap. I don't remember everything he said, but I've never heard/seen him this mad, he even threatened the guy (he admits that this was not the professional thing to do and is upfront with the DM about it when he reported the incident to him later) and then hangs up, warning us that if we see anyone trying to drop off anything to call him. Thankfully he never showed up.
From what I gathered this guy isn't even from around the area our store is located in, yet somehow fully expected to not just drop this stuff off but for us to get rid of it for him. Furthermore after getting hung up on the guy called our neighboring store with the same pitch (I would hope he asked politely this time) but he quickly got shut down as well (albeit a lot more politely) Perhaps even stranger is that one of my co-workers claimed that he had seen some related stuff in our dumpster before so maybe he had been dumping stuff beforehand but wanted to warn us before dropping off the bigger items? I have no clue, but the entitlement and arrogance was just baffling - the whole situation was baffling.
