The romance in Frieren.

TLDR; Does anyone really like the romance between Fren and Stark?

I saw Frieren come up in a post here and watched a video on it earlier today. I've also been watching the 2nd season. And I have to say the romance between Fren and Stark is so forced. Granted I haven't read the Manga or anything. And I understand its a grounded look and a young budding relationship. But they have nothing in common. They dont have any chemistry outside of the forced plot points of Stark is a boy and Fern is a girl. If these were two guys or two girls I would feel like its gay bait, honestly. Like, even in the newest episode Fern is like, "All we talk about is Frieren," and Stark says, "What else is there to talk about?" I honestly can't! Its not even like the cute tripping over yourself, foot in your mouth, saying the wrong thing, Stark actually means that and its true!!! They have nothing in common except they both follow Frieren around.
