How do you all store your gear?

I am no professional but I've started to accumulate a little collection of lenses and bodies. The lenses are a mixture of newish F mount lenses and old AI-S for the SLR and DSLR bodies I have. Right now everything just sits on a shelf when I'm not using it.

Browsing the internet I've seen people put their gear in Pelican cases for storage. I've see people build custom temperature/humidity controlled enclosures for their gear.

Essentially how worried do I need to be nothing is being stored in a damp cold basement. It all lives in a room that sits around 20c and about 40% humidity.
