Traveling to Ontario

My family and I will be staying in Fort Erie/Crystal Beach for 2 months (March and April), what are your favorite local spots and things we shouldn't miss?

Touristy thing are okay but I'm really looking for small businesses you love to support, the out of the way middle eastern restaurant with the best falafel, the local galleries and art shops, the best parks and easy hiking trails, good places for the kids to look for pretty rocks, and places to listen to local bands. Are there any festivals that happen within those months? Happily will drive up to 2 hours, will drive up to 4 hours for an amazing experience. Also we are obviously queer so LGBT friendly is a must.
