K3FEF update
Hi folks!
Some of you in the Northeast may have used my K3FEF HF WebSDR at some point, so I’ve got a big update to share. 🎉
Over the past several months, I’ve been making a lot of changes and testing new systems. As much as I appreciate them, RTL-SDRs are starting to show their age, and the old WebSDR software hasn’t really been touched in about a decade. It doesn’t even support SSL on its own—and let’s be honest, it screams Web 1.0. 😄
That said, I’ve landed on a brand-new setup and I’m really excited about it.
The new system runs in Docker using UberSDR (open source on GitHub), with KA9Q Radio on the backend (also on GitHub). The developer is extremely active and constantly pushing improvements. The interface is modern, works great on mobile, and includes plenty of keyboard shortcuts—especially helpful for visually impaired users.
Even better, it’s now fed by an RX888 mk2 using direct sampling, giving full 0–30 MHz coverage, similar to a KiwiSDR. And of course, the most important part: it’s still connected to my low-noise antenna farm in Northeast PA.
Oh—and yes—it finally has an SSL certificate. 🔒

I don’t hop in here too often, but my email on QRZ is current, and I absolutely welcome constructive feedback.
Fair warning: I do run Google ads, but only to help subsidize a business-class, high-bandwidth circuit from PenTeleData. Rest assured, I’m still losing money. 😂
Hope you enjoy it—and happy listening!

TL;DR:
My old K3FEF WebSDR has been completely rebuilt! 🚀 New UberSDR + KA9Q Radio setup, modern mobile-friendly interface, active development, full 0–30 MHz coverage via RX888 mk2 direct sampling, fed from my low-noise antenna farm in NE PA—and it finally has SSL.
