At what point is enough enough?

I am currently working but looking for a new job. I turned on my "Open to Work" label on LinkedIn and a recruiter reached out to me with a role that fits my experience and skillset really well. I had a quick phone call with her about the basic info, and then a video call with her the next day.

She explained that the interview process would include a video assessment, which if I passed, would lead to a virtual interview, and again if I passed, the final round would be an in-person panel interview.

I completed the video assessment, which was basically a Zoom call with an AI bot on the other end asking me interview questions (the latest fresh hell of job searching). I passed this stage and had a virtual interview with the person who would be my direct manager, and it went very well in my opinion.

I got booked for a second round interview at the end of the next week. Mid-way through that week, I got an email from the company's HR rep asking me to prepare a project that I would present at my interview in 2 days. Okay, sure. I get that a lot of places ask this nowadays. Done.

I went in for the in-person interview where a panel of 3 (including the person who would report to me) interviewed me, I presented my project, and again, it went very well.

At the end of the second interview, the HR manager told me there would still be another round of interviews if I passed this one. The week after, they booked me for a third interview which is supposed to happen in-person next week.

Last week, when confirming my third interview, HR asked me to bring in my project again for the third interview so I could present it to the new people who would interview me. Great, it's already done, I'll bring it with me again next week.

What's sending me over the edge is that today I received another email from HR asking me to complete an online performance assessment before my third-round interview. Apparently it's a one-hour online attitude assessment that consists of 3 questionnaires (one is timed). I looked it up and the way this assessment is marketed to companies is all about how costly and time-consuming it is to find the right candidate, and this assessment helps you "use your candidate's time, not yours." Immediately that rubbed me the wrong way, as if every applicant's time is not worth anything. And it did get me thinking about how much time and effort I've already put into this process with only more asks being thrown at me at every turn.

Overall it would mean that the process has been/will be:

  1. Recruiter call
  2. Recruiter video call
  3. AI-bot video assessment
  4. Virtual interview
  5. In-person panel interview + project presentation
  6. One-hour personality assessment
  7. Another in-person interview + project presentation again (same project)

I know I'm a great fit for this role. I have all the relevant experience, I'm overqualified on the education side, and I got along very well with the staff I've met so far, who I'd be working closely with. I'm not shy to prove myself, but how much effort is too much for an office job? This is for a Manager-level position, not even Director or C-suite.

I do really want to leave my current company so I am inclined to just suck it up and do the assessment. But I am also considering calling the recruiter tomorrow to explain what a shit process this is, how it's very different than what I was initially told, and it's really putting me off the job.

I'm just so frustrated. Job searching is hell.
