Is Switzerland currently facing a shortage of teachers, especially for maths?

Work

Hi everyone,

I’m Swiss by nationality and spent my early childhood and school years in Switzerland. Due to family reasons, I later moved back to the Dominican Republic, where I completed my university education. I graduated with honors in Mathematics Education from a well-regarded university here (PUCMM) and currently have about two years of teaching experience.

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of news from different countries about teachers leaving the profession, and it made me wonder if something similar is happening in Switzerland. I’m personally considering returning to Switzerland and I’m interested in working as a teacher there, so I wanted to ask directly.

Language-wise, I’m fluent in Spanish, English, and Italian. My French and German are still very basic, but I know those are important depending on the canton and I’m open to improving them.

From your experience, is there demand for teachers right now, especially in maths? And would someone with Swiss nationality but a foreign teaching degree and experience realistically have a chance of entering the Swiss school system?

Thanks in advance for any insights.
